NGW Brings Jam to the Bay Area
In 2007, the National Guitar Workshop debuted its first Jam Summit at the New Milford campus, which was embraced by enthusiastic students. This summer, the Jam Summit is being expanded to the San Francisco campus, giving West Coast students a chance to explore the places where rock, folk, jazz, funk, Latin, reggae, country, psychedelic, and free playing can meet, meld and morph. Intermediate to advanced players of all instruments and ages will be guided and encouraged to unleash their potential as improvisers and spontaneous composers. Students will have the chance to play with and learn from faculty members Brian Seeger, Chris Haugen, Mike Sugar and Simon Lott. These artists have performed and recorded with the likes of Charlie Hunter, Derek Trucks, Bob Weir, Stanton Moore, String Cheese Incident, Warren Haynes, J.J.Cale, Eric Krasno, George Porter Jr., Idiris Muhammed, Big John Patton, Zigaboo Modeliste (the Meters), Karl Denson (Greyboy Allstars), Robert Walter, Taj Mahal, Galactic, Mofro, Tea Leaf Green, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Chris Wood (Medeski, Martin and Wood), Skerik, Dave Schools (Widespread Panic), Bobby Previte, Mike Dillon and many, many more.
Students of the San Francisco Jam Summit will also have the opportunity to attend a clinic with special guest Eric Krasno, guitarist for the jam group Soulive. Krasno has also worked with such artists as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, The Fugees, Dave Mathews, The Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, Talib Kweli, Justin Timberlake, 50 Cent, Redman, Wu-Tang Clan, The Beatnuts, The Roots, John Scofield, Joshua Redman, Derek Trucks, Robert Randolph and many others over the past few years.
