I think they're right on this article. Congotronics is one of the best new sounds I've heard in years. Let's not forget Fela Kuti and Femi Kuti! Fela helped bring this West African sound to the forefront of Western pop subcultures more than 30 years ago.

There's another female singer from Mali, but I can't remember her name who I've seen at Jazz Fest.

Gange Brass Band is another one of my favorites who I just saw in New Orleans at Tiptina's.
