As a open mic host in Maryland I feel the same way about open mics. They are a great way for exposure/ networking and working out the kinks of songs that you have written but are a tad bit nervous of how people will like them. Open mic like any other performance are very honest. If they don't like it you will know and the same way if you love it. I started playing out with open mics while I was a freshman in Highschool . If open mics are good for anything the most it would be learning to own a stage. So embrace open mics they are a stepping stone to future success.
