Proprietors
of lute stores all around the globe are preparing for a resurgence in interest in the ancient
instrument when Sting’s latest album is released on October 10. The album, "Songs From the Labyrinth," is a
collection of 16th century lute songs. Most were written by English composer
John Dowland, who may be the first English singer-songwriter ever.
Sting recorded the album
with Sarajevan lutenist Edin Karamazov. Their post-release performance blitz
will include an appearance on the October 16 “Studio 60” episode, concerts at
St. Luke’s Church and the Allen Room in New York, and possibly a show in
Berlin. They’ve ruled out stadium shows for the time being.
